Owner:
Carla started Country Club Kennels in 1996. She found herself in a position, like many people do, where she was in need of a good boarding kennel to care for her dogs when she traveled. After visiting and researching several kennels she was unable to find a kennel where she felt comfortable leaving her beloved four-legged, family members. It was at this point that she decided she would open and operate a different type of boarding kennel. Her goal was to have a boarding/training kennel where dogs could actually enjoy their time away from home, feel safe and loved and would pull their owners to the front door for their next arrival.
She opened Country Club Kennels in Catlett, Virginia in the beautiful countryside. The kennels are located in a peaceful, stress free environment and the dogs are treated as though they were our own. Most kennels charge extra for a dog to be taken outside for a bathroom break or exercise. Carla could never comprehend or accept how a kennel attendant could walk down the aisle and take out one dog but not another. Dogs don't understand finances and she felt it would be extremely stressful for the dog who was being passed by. Since 1996 Carla and Country Club Kennels staff have acquired quite a devoted following and have a reputation for running a first class operation where customers can leave their dogs and enjoy their travels without worrying about their precious pets.
The majority of our customers travel an hour or more to have their dog(s) board with us and state that they happily do so because they trust us to do all we can to ensure that their dog(s) have a great time, stay safe and come home happy! Carla is also a well known trainer around the Northern Virginia Area. She has helped many dogs over come issues that other trainers had either given up on or turned away. She provides a fun and positive way for your dog(s) to learn basic commands, improve their social skills and become a polite family member. Carla is also the Founder of The Chance Foundation (an all breed, dog rescue) and has been rescuing, rehabilitating, financing, and finding forever homes for dogs in need since 2000. She has dedicated her life to dogs and truly understands what it takes to keep them happy and healthy. After 20 years of running a business, many people would be thinking of retiring. Carla loves what she does, couldn't imagine doing anything else, and plans to continue providing this desperately needed service for a very long time. Carla is semi-retiring 9/2021, so we will no longer be offering training services. Boarding will operate as per usual! Thank you so much!!
Country Club Kennels Staff:
Country Club Kennels staff are dedicated and devoted employees who truly enjoy working with dogs. They are experienced dog handlers and pride themselves in making each and every dog feel special and loved. The majority of our staff have been working at CCK for over 5 years and a few over 10 years.
The staff builds bonds quickly with the dogs that board here and know them well. Our customers tell us that we make them feel like "family." We take this as quite an honor and feel truly blessed to be in a position where we can earn and keep the trust of our wonderful clients. In addition to taking care of our boarding customers, the CCK staff also provide loving care to our Chance Foundation dogs who typically range from anywhere between 10 to 15 dogs at any given time. With Carla's help they train, socialize, and give them the love and care that they so deserve. The staff are comfortable with all breeds and have the knowledge and experience to know how to help a dog adjust to a new environment where they will feel safe. A few of the staff also assist Carla with training client's dogs as well while boarding with us.

To Eat or Not to Eat, that is the Question!
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I know we are all looking forward to the turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce… mmmm!!! I know my four-legged friends are looking forward to the left-over food they will be drooling over! Thanksgiving is such a great time to be with family and friends and having a best bud to cuddle with when you are knocked out from that food coma. Before we get into snuggling our animals, it is good to know what they can and cannot eat. You do not want any upset bellies on your watch.
Let’s go over a few foods of what NOT to give your dog:
- Turkey Skin (Cause Pancreatitis)
- Turkey Bones (Choking Hazzard)
- Gravy (Cause Diarrhea)
- Stuffing (Cause Anemia)
- Raisins/Grapes (Cause Kidney Failure)
- Garlic (Cause Anemia)
- Nutmeg (Cause Seizures)
- Nuts (Some nuts can cause vomiting and diarrhea; such as Macadamia and Black Walnuts)
- Mushrooms (Cause Liver Problems)
- Fat Trimmings (Cause Pancreatitis)
- Corn on the Cob (Choking Hazzard)
- Chocolate (Can overstimulate nervous and cardiovascular systems)
- Butter (Cause Diarrhea)
- Bread Dough (a dog’s stomach can trigger the yeast enzymes to convert sugar that is in the dough to alcohol and carbon dioxide)
Now let’s get to the good stuff and see what dogs can eat!
- Turkey (light meat only)
- Cranberry Sauce
- Mashed Potatoes (No Butter)
- Sweet Potatoes
- Green Beans
- Pumpkin
- Apple Slices
MmmmMMMMmmm!!!
Even though it seems like the bad outweigh the good, at least you will know your dog will be eating healthy and safely this Thanksgiving.
Give your dog his own bowl this Thanksgiving I am sure they will thank you later!
We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season!
