My name is Cassie. I was recently rescued by The Chance Foundation after several attempts had been made to get animal control to do something to save me and my puppies. I have lived my two years on the end of a short chain. The fact that I had a dilapidated dog house as shelter, apparently by Virginia law, is enough to be considered humane. TCF does not agree and was sickened to learn that three of my five puppies had literally frozen to death. The last of the three was during the night after animal control had stopped by to assess the situation. TCF had to do something to keep me and my two remaining puppies from encountering the same, horrific fate. They were able to purchase me and my puppies from my previous owner and now we are enjoying knowing what it is like to be loved, cared for and warm.
My puppies, seen below, Will and Winston (names You helped choose!) ... were born approximately 1/1/2011, are weaned from me and ready to be seen by those looking to adopt! They will be ready for official adoption by March 1st ... and I am looking to find a wonderful new home as well. I am very sweet and so appreciative of the people who are caring for me and my pups. I don't understand how some people think that it is ok to treat me the way I was being treated.

Meet Kira, a beautiful black Retriever mix. She's about 5 years old and fully vetted. Kira was dumped at the shelter by a callous owner after living her life on the end of a chain. She's never known what kindness is but you can tell by the glint in her eye and the small tail wag that she is eager to learn. As of her rescue date (1/14/2012) she is shy but we are sure that with a little time, love and patience, she will come out of her shell and turn into a fabulous devoted dog. I came into rescue with a broken leg after I was kicked by my previous owner. He didn't bother to take me to the vet so it healed on it's own. It is a little straight, but doesn't cause me any problems now. I absolutely love to fetch balls and to sunbathe outside on a warm, sunny day. Midnight is a small black Lab mix. He is shy and fearful of new situations. Despite his fear he has never come close to biting or growling at any of us or any other dog.
